Academic Community in Shaping the College Strategy

The strategic session held at Narxoz College was more than just a working meeting. It became a moment of institutional self-definition — a point at which the development vector is shaped, priorities are clarified, and the architecture of competitive advantage is established.

At the center of the discussion were modern principles of strategic management based on best practices from leading international business schools. The Service-Profit Chain model made it possible to examine the relationship between faculty satisfaction, the quality of the educational environment, and student loyalty. Because a strong educational product always begins with internal culture and the systematic work of the team.

The IMD approach to strategy served as the methodological framework for the discussion. Strategy is about choice. It is about understanding what we will not do. A college cannot be “for everyone.” It must clearly answer the key questions: Where do we play? How are we organized? How do we win?

Drawing on Michael Porter’s differentiation concept, participants emphasized that if an organization is not a cost leader, it must be unique. Narxoz College builds this uniqueness through strong industry partnerships, a pool of practitioner-faculty, integration with university infrastructure, and a powerful alumni ecosystem. These are not merely assets — they are strategic capabilities.

During the session, a range of strategic diagnostic tools were applied, including SWOT analysis, the VRIO framework, the 7S model, and the Denison organizational model. This comprehensive approach made it possible to identify current competitive advantages and growth areas, while aligning the academic team around a shared vision.

The key objectives of the session were to understand the college’s direction, identify faculty pain points, and propose concrete improvement solutions in the form of quick wins.
